The Indians have traded LHP
Aaron Laffey to the Seattle Mariners for 25 yr-old minor league UT
Matt Lawson (not
Matt Lawton). The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for recently signed RP
Chad Durbin. Lawson has bounced around a bit, including being shipped to the Pacific Northwest as part of last summer's
Cliff Lee deal. He spent all of last season at the AA level playing SS, 2B, LF and CF and putting up an .811 OPS, his best as a pro. Expect him to start out at Akron. Also cross Laffey off of the list of contenders for the #5 spot in the rotation. All of the other candidates (
Josh Tomlin,
Jeanmar Gomez,
David Huff) have throw shutout ball over the first week.
